Album Notes

Having lived in various parts of the American landscape over his 27 years, Patrick Dunn is finding a home in the resurgence of the songwriter. His Americana sensibility and raw emotion recall a sense of timelessness scattered across generations: a new voice from an old soul. This undeniable combination has Patrick poised to claim his place in the evolving time-line of Rock n Roll music.

Currently, Patrick is living in Southern California bridging his east coast roots with his new west coast life by writing songs for an upcoming release. These new songs find Patrick getting his hands dirty in the revival sounds that are hinted at on his last album "Down That Road" (Dirt Floor Records), and have been getting an extremely enthusiastic response at live shows.

Patrick Dunn has played at such notable venues as The Hotel Cafe, Genghis Cohen, and Dirt Floor Records Songwriters Series (Los Angeles); The Paradise Lounge, Church, TT the Bears, and Bank of America Pavillion (Boston); CBGB's, Don Hills, The Sidewalk Cafe, Niagara, and CNote (New York), Dirt Floor Studios (CT), and many more. He has shared nights at these venues wth artists big and small, including the Last of A Breed Tour (Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Ray Price), Elvis Costello, Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris, and of course the Dirt Floor Records roster.

I'm impressed again with Pat's dynamic diversity in music and lyrics. I know Pat. I hear him in his music. CD Now says his style would appeal to those who like certain other great artists - to that I add Jerry Garcia - hear "Ourselves Alone". My Fav on this Album "You Better Get Far" !

Let me start off by saying it has been awhile since I have listened to a cd all the way through over and over, but that is exactly what I did with "Down that Road." Patrick Dunn's lyrics just stuck with me. He seems to write from his soul and my soul thanks him for it. If you want to be inspired, buy this CD. I promise you won't be able to put it down. Thanks to Patrick for his honest lyrics and heartfelt music. I am officially a fan!!

Dreamlike Essence...

Dunn's heartfelt tone and passion for soft-spoken melody easily allows audiences to discover its true beauty. With its rock, Americana and indie roots, there is a dream-like essence to this music. Dunn cites such artists as Neil Young, Gram Parsons, Ryan Adams and Tom Waits among his many influences. These are evident throughout his thought-provoking and soulful lyricism, sweetened ever so slightly by the sounds of acoustic and electric guitars, piano, harmonica and banjo. As co-founder of the independent label DirtFloor, Dunn has also worked closely with Eric Lichter, who lends instrumental, as well as background vocals to the album. Absolutely beautiful!

suck it ryan adams, patrick is the new alt-country king

While most alt-country rockers are beefing up their sound with gratuitous electronic gadgetry, down that road opts for a more tactile sound. Instruments twang, strings and frets squeak with each chord change, and Dunn's tenuous, conversational singing voice takes the softer songs to an engagingly intimate place, as though patrick had curled up on your couch, guitar in hand, to share a little tale or two. The harder, more upbeat numbers are playful and rock-y without drowning in instrumentation. It's the lyrics that tell the real story here, and though some may not be able to relate to the world according to Dunn. years from now, they may well hoard copies of down that road and marvel at its prescient insights.
