Saxophonist Patrick Lamb, spent most of last year on tour playing saxophone & singing for Jazz & R&B greats Bobby Caldwell, Gino Vannelli, Jeff Lorber & Diane Schuur. After a performance with Jeff Lorber, Jeff said, "You know Patrick, I have played with a lot of people and you are a world class musician, but you NEED a world class record." This is when “It’s All Right Now” started production.
In January of 2011 Patrick headed to LA, and he and Jeff hit it hard writing and then recording the project. They were true to the music!
“It’s All Right Now,” revisits Patrick’s southern roots and influences from growing up in Jackson, MS as a developing musician. This CD has the grit of New Orleans Jazz, the Funk & R&B of Maceo Parker & James Brown, and the soulfulness of Bill Wither’s. The project is distinguished by exceptional writing, producing and an extraordinary supporting cast; Alex Al (Michael Jackson), Little John Roberts (Janet Jackson), Dave Weckl (Chick Corea, Robert Plant, Diana Ross), Paul Jackson Jr. (Tonight Show), Michael White (Steely Dan), Dwight Sills (Anita Baker, Babyface, Kirk Whalum) and many others. So, as you might guess, the records pretty slamm'in! The featured single is the track, “Sweet Tea.”
The CD claims another distinction. Although predominantly instrumental featuring the saxophone, it offers some vocals specifically an old Blood, Sweat & Tears cover, which allows Patrick to showcase his abilities as a vocalist. It also captures the high- energy of his live performances, which Patrick is known for, while showcasing his stellar saxophone playing.
As the producer on the project Jeff felt strongly about pulling from the musical influences Patrick has used to develop as an exceptional musician. They also wanted to capture the vibe and the energy of live players collaborating. The results include songs like the funky “Walk Away,”& “Maceo!,” and the groove of, “Grandma’s Hands” & “It’s All Right Now.” In an era where live instrumentation doesn’t dominate in music production, this CD is an interesting and much needed fusion of high energy, live grooves and that old school sound made famous during the Jazz Fusion years.
