Patrick Neher is one of the top double bass soloists and composers today. His music spans numerous genres and his performances have been heralded as contemporary and dramatic, lyrical, sensual, and extremely expressive. An artist of dynamic virtuosity, Patrick Neher presents a level of double bass performance rarely heard. He has presented concerts in venues around the world and has been Prof. of Double Bass at the Univ. of Arizona (Tucson) since 1984.
"Soliloquy" is Patrick Neher's sixth solo album (others include: Grand Bassery!, UpFront!, Romantic Songs for Soprano and Double Bass, Bass Ascending vols. 1 and 2). The music is for solo double bass, written by today's contemporary composer/bass players, and each piece is dedicated to the late David Walter, former prof. of double bass at the Juilliard School in New York. David Walter's life was an inspiration to all his students and these compositions were written for a 90th birthday celebration given for David at the Juilliard School in Sept. of 2002. David passed away in July, 2003.
The last track of the album is a live solo performance of Patrick Neher using electronic looping technology to enhance his improvisation: "Improv. d'Amour."
Each piece is an inner expression of dedication to a life in music. Each is a soliloquy.

Accessible collection of melodic, contemporary music for solo double bass
author: DBarbiero
This is a highly accessible collection of melodic, contemporary music for solo double bass. Neher exploits the full range of the bass—his upper register playing is especially fluid and lyrical, while his pizzicato and use of double-stops and open strings lend a solid rhythmic and harmonic foundation to the pieces in which they appear. The compositions, most of which are dedicated to or inspired by Neher’s teacher David Walter, show a diversity of approaches to writing for solo bass, but cohere well when collected together.
