Album Notes

This album was recorded on a series of mostly Wednesday evenings by the PCB (Polychlorinated Biphenyls) at our keyboard player Jonny’s "Little Rascals" clubhouse we call Melbourne Studios. Jon and Steve did pretty much all the engineering, twisting of knobs, turning of screws, punching of keys, patching of cords and clicking of mice with some help from Paxty. I forced them to eat vegan food, we imbibed (or didn’t?), hunkered down and explored the brink of our own sonic frontiers. The sounds captured herein were created by voices, guitars, keyboards, drums, an "808" and other non-digital percussion instruments all hooked up via microphone to this newly fangled contraption called a "thinking machine" (computer). As it were, some of these tunes are brand new, like Face In The Dirt which we actually wrote and recorded extemporaneously in a few takes. And some are from the ancient regime, like Border Patrol which I wrote way back in the year of our destiny twenty ought two. Infant or adolescent, we raised each song from scratch like some kind of convoluted parents shepherding them along into something previously never heretofore tracked, branded, beamed, or transmogrified to mine ears at least. All in all it was supposed to take a couple weeks, but over a year later, after some finger pointing, nail biting, preaching to the choir, haphazard deprogramming, ritualistic hazing and mellifluous/harmonious accidents here we are. With more than I could have ever imagined.
