Album Notes

Pauline Le Bel was described by critics as a "national treasure" and "a musical instrument linked to a soul" for her passionate singing in musical theatre, specializing in heartbreaking songs. Her new CD, Deep Fun, suggests this musical instrument has at last found her funny bone. It started innocently enough when she was asked to write a song for a California science conference about the positive effects of music on the brain. The Neurochemical Song and Dance came out funny. The audience was transformed by the healing power of music AND the healing power of laughter. There was no stopping her. She wrote a torch song about friendly bacteria; a sexy blues about Darwin's theory of evolution; as well as songs inspired by garlic, spices and kissing. The song she wrote for Marlene Dietrich (Vy don't ve do) from her experience of playing Marlene on stage, is an audience favourite. By the way, the first person to correctly identify what exactly is going on at the end of this song, will win a coveted Deep Fun mug.
Reviews: “Just like Pauline herself, her new CD, Deep Fun, is engaging, entertaining, and totally different. What a treat.” Sheryl McKay, CBC Radio
“… torch songs and jazzy Blues … with an abundance of quirky and humourous lyrics, all carried along by Pauline’s pitch-perfect voice. “ The Undercurrent
"It’s a fine CD, both funny and witty, with terrific musical backup." Spider Robinson, author and Globe and Mail columnist
