Album Notes

The Paul Ramirez Band is a dynamic power–trio from Houston, Texas. They bring a variety of influences to the stage, all while moving fluidly from one to the next.

Paul Ramirez has been on the journey to play music ever since he was a child. Starting off on drums and piano, until later moving onto the guitar as a young teenager. His musical influences have ranged from blues, rock, funk, r&b, soul, jazz, latin, country and classical. Learning by soaking in as much of each as he could.... It is all these influences that is the basis of the Paul Ramirez Band.

The Paul Ramirez Band was formed in January of 2011. Since that time, they have stayed busy performing at least 3-5 shows per week along with a weekly residency at the Continental Club in Houston, Texas. They have been a Houston Press, Best Blues Band nominee in 2011 & 2012. And in November of 2012,
released their debut release, Sex With A Dragon to good reviews.

Dragon breathes enough fire that it doesn’t wilt when held up to the gold standard of 2012 Lone Star guitarslinger offerings, Gary Clark Jr.’s Blak and Blu.”
– Chris Gray, Houston Press

“Without a doubt, Paul Ramirez is one tasteful guitar player. He always knows just what licks to play. Go hear him now! You’ll be knocked out!”
– Kevin Wildman, Music News Houston

“In his new role as frontman, Paul continues channeling music at transcendentally stratospheric levels.”
– Andy Eng, The Scene

“I have spent time listening to the new CD by the Paul Ramirez Band Sex With A Dragon and I am very impressed by this musical odyssey. The CD is musically tight and not over-produced, retaining the “live” sound element that makes the Paul Ramirez Band a delight to be around and to party with. This is one GREAT CD! The last cut, “See That My Grave is Kept Clean”, a soulful tribute to Blind Lemon Jefferson, is stunning and it is great to know that at least some of the younger blues bands in Texas know the importance of paying homage to our great blues
legends and to our collective Texas music legacy.”
– Carlos Calbillo, Houston

“Paul.... Sounds freakin’ AWESOME! What a tone!! I absolutely love it!!! I love this track “Sex With A Dragon”, Great Job!!!!”
– Billy Pope, Baton Rouge

“GREAT CD!! I picked one up at your show, Bikin’ On The Block in Lafayette, and I think I’ve almost worn it down!”
– Marty DeRoussel, Lafayette

A Very Strong Debut! Rock/Blues/Latin/Soul fans will love this album
On his own feet now - Paul has played six years in Mark Mays band - the Paul Ramirez Band released it's first record as a trio. Brian "Chopper" Shoppell on drums, Bella Adele on bass and Paul Ramirez released an album called "Sex with a Dragon" and it's really a great one!
Based on solid Blues - Texas Style - the PRB mixed in a lot of styles and blends R&B, Soul and Latin sounds to a whole that it's a pleasure to hear. And Paul really can play guitar. Everybody who has heard him with Mark May live or on his records can tell you about it. New is he really can sing! Soft and smooth on the slower songs but with power in others.
This Band is ready to take the stage and evreywhere they played they got fantastic reviews. Playing live the PRB sometimes adds a second guitar player or/and a harmonica player but even as a trio they really can rock!
Try out this album - You will love it. I haven't heard of anybody who don't like this CD!
