Peter B. Allen is a composer and pianist whose music, blending aspects of classical and jazz, has been described as "fresh, lyrical, and rhythmic". His music covers a variety of mediums including orchestral, choral and chamber music.
Peter has recorded three albums of inspirational music and has written three books of sheet music now popular in Christian Science churches. Peter's first album, Still With Thee (1994), is a collection of piano and vocal solos based on hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal featuring vocalist Tanya Kay Perkins. The Greatest Thing In The World (1998), Peter's second album, includes original music inspired by Henry Drummond's book, The Greatest Thing In The World, featuring soprano Julia Wade. Pilgrim on Earth (2001) includes new arrangements of ten well loved hymns recorded with a full orchestra and is Peter's most recent album.
Peter holds a B.A. in Piano and Composition from Principia College (1981) and diplomas in Arranging Film Scoring from the Grove School of Music (1984). He also attended the summer music study programs at the Eastman School of Music and the Aspen Music Festival.
Peter's professional credits include music composition for film, live theater and dance productions. He has also performed as a ballet and vocal accompanist and with numerous jazz and pop groups. In 1986, Peter toured Europe as a freelance musician.
