There is a part in every show we perform where I like to talk about my Dad. I talk about my Dad because it was through him that I came to love this music. My Dad was a singer in the late ‘50s and into the ‘60s and he performed the nightclub circuit here in NY and on Long Island and NJ and watching him go to work every night in his tux made a huge impression on me. My Dad was also a big Sinatra fan and growing up about every record ever played in our house was a Sinatra record and my brother and I literally learned music by listening to these records. I remember my brother learning to play the drums on a padded folding chair to the great Neil Hefti /Sinatra Swinging brass record as my Dad was teaching him at that very early age how to swing.
So when my Dad passed away a number of years ago, he left behind a whole bunch of stuff as one tends to do when one moves on .... And it took me a long time to go through that stuff ....but about 2 years ago I went through one of the boxes and I found these Big Band arrangements on these big sheets of music paper hand written in pencil of some of the songs my Dad performed at the time. And one of these was a Sinatra favorite "I've Got The World On A String" and I thought – I should do this song. That's the lead song on this new record and as with all these songs, they are for him and for all of you. Enjoy!
