Album Notes

CALIFORNIA (Beevine Records, 2004) finds pc munoz and the amen corner paying tribute to 80s funk, hip-hop, and new wave, while also bravely forging new ground. Exciting collaborations can be found on nearly every track: legendary songwriter Jackson Browne drops in to sing on the title track (a funky mash note to the golden state), longtime Prince and the Revolution keyboardist Dr. Fink serves up a classic synth solo on "deatbed", world renowned conductor Yair Samet leads a revved-up string quartet through the stirring eroticism of "clean", and gospel-soul vocalist Carmelita Traylor (heard previously on records by rap mogul Master P and others) delivers powerhouse vocal turns all over. Throughout CALIFORNIA, pc's trademark, multi-layered lyricism and eclectic songwriting style give the album a distinctive sound, unlike anything else in early '00s R&B.

Stick Jones on the guitair was fabulous, providing a perfect blend allowing background with punch. The entire band's use of presence was mystifying and the vocals true and faithful. Awsome

A great album with grooves ranging from funky to folk to country. And smart, deep lyrics. You can't pigeon-hole their music or style to any genre, but afficionados of good music never do. Check it out!

Best new food group in music!

I was getting tired of my music collection. Sad because it's VERY eclectic. Something for every mood and culture. But I'd been looking for a new (music)food group when I heard Pc Munoz on Night Becomes Eclectic (KCRW). I ordered two CDs that night(California and A Good Deed) It's one of the most satisfying purchases I've made in music. THANK YOU Pc. My ears and heart are purring!
