Album Notes

Singer/songwriter Peter Conover's second CD release: METAMORPHIC. Released in the winter of 2001, METAMORPHIC pushes the folk-rock crossover to extremes, swinging wildly from acoustic to electric and back again. Titles include "Look For The Moon," "Sometime," "Circle In," "Avalon Is Calling," "Make Them Well," "Horses," Nora Mayfield's "The Tercel And The Rock Dove," Arielle NaMara's "The Gathering," and Conover's rock and roll arrangement of "Jack In The Green."

Featuring Randy Akin on lead guitar, Will Stanton on percussion, and Hank Schwemmer on bass. Backing vocals were contributed by Paula Holz, Valerie Geib, Mari Powers, and Sarah Conover. Master alchemist and storyteller James Hershberger gives a spoken introduction to the instrumental percussive drone guitar piece "Epona." Steve Gotcher at Audio for the Arts was Conover's engineer, and Anne Marie Garrison designed original artwork for the album.

What makes this extraordinary and controversial performer tick? Peter Conover is unique because, within the simple musical parameters of folk and rock, he mixes up familiarity with experimentation, starting from a sound so ordinary it seems almost mainstream, but taking that sound to places you didn't think three chords could go. And it is always "intense," the most commonly heard description of a Conover set.

"Metamorphic" will take you through a musical transformation with its flawlessly connecting themes, soulful sounds, purely moving melodies and brilliantly executed lyrics. Touching mind and soul, while inspiring body to motion has always been Peter Conover's forte - this album more than illustrates how. Do yourself the favor of owning a copy.

This is a wonderful cd. "Look for the Moon", "Avalon is Calling", "Jack in the Green", "Make Them Well", "Circle In" and "The Gathering" should be sung at every pagan gathering. "Lone Fox, Lone Wolf" really touches my heart with it's sweet and sad theme. "Sometime" is a powerful song of recovery and "Dream Street" is wonderful. "Epona" is one of my favorites. Why haven't I heard of him in any pagan reviews?
