Paul De Castro y su Orquesta Dengue offers us a rich variety of danceable yet mentally stimulating music. A departure from the rest of Latin Jazz offerings in the market today, De Castro has conjured up a rewarding mix of diverse styles, which somehow end up unified in his music. Also, of great interest is the participation of Latin Jazz and Cuban music luminaries such as Justo Almario (saxophone), Danilo Lozano (flute), Kevin Ricard (percussion), Ramon Flores (trumpet), and Sal Cracchiolo (trumpet), who blend their musical skills to this new way of conceptualizing Latin Jazz.

The music:

Paul De Castro without doubt is one of the most creative musical minds in Latin Jazz today. His songs range a wide variety of styles form hard hitting timba/jazz as is the case of Bueno Pá Gozar to a traditional descarga such as Maestro Frank which was written in memory of the legendary pianist Frank Emilio. There are surprising re-interpretations of jazz standards as heard in Que Cosa, Dejate de Boberias, and Azulejos; as well as striking new songs, which defy definition such as Una Miradita. These songs have offered De Castro a starting point, which take the listeners along a surprising musical journey.
