Album Notes

Pete & Martyn coming together was no accident, but a moment that was always going to happen. Their roots are from the Wirral area of the UK, with a huge history of performances from different genres behind them. Their paths crossed at a moment when they realised this unique collaboration of hang drum and acoustic guitar would bring them together musically at the right time in their lives.

Pete Downes
Completely self taught, he is rapidly becoming one of Europe’s leading guitarists. He is already established on the jazz scene in the UK through critically acclaimed work with his jazz trio PD3, at jazz clubs and festivals culminating in a packed performance at Glastonbury Festival.
With influences that cover such a wide spectrum as Ralph Towner, Bach and John McLaughlin, Pete has caught the attention of Jazzwise, Radio 2 & 3, Jazz FM, The Guardian, The Observer and many others. In addition to producing three PD3 recordings - one featuring UK trumpet legend Dick Pearce - he has produced several solo recordings including 'Sea of Tranquility', ‘Music for Guitar: Bach’ and recently composed and produced theraputic music for the UK National Health Service.

Martyn Barker
Drummer and co-composer with the band Shriekback, Billy Bragg and the Blokes, and Sarah-Jane Morris, Martyn has enjoyed creative recording work with many International artists including Alain Bashung, resulting in several number 1 albums, and collaborations in film and library music. Martyn has evolved from modern drums to incorporate percussion instruments from around the world. “I look forward to the most creative moments while I'm in a room performing with other musicians.” Martyn's influences are also diverse, including Chopin, Roedelius, Talk Talk and Peter Gabriel. Recent projects in Europe have been with Juliette Greco, Khaled and Dominique A.
