Album Notes

Guitarist, Jack Pearson, is probably best known for his blues/rock lead and slide guitar playing as a member of The Allman Brothers Band from 1997 to 1999. But he has achieved guitar master status in other genres as well.

Often singled out solely as an electric blues slide player, Jack is just as adept in many other musical styles and is able to take each of those styles to another level with his guitar.

Artists he has worked with include Delbert McClinton, Lee Ann Womack, Groove Holmes, Faith Hill, Jimmy Smith, Tracy Nelson, Shelby Lynne, Dan Penn and others too numerous to mention.

His songs have been recorded by such artists as Gregg Allman, Tracy Nelson, The Allman Brothers Band, Jimmy Hall, Gov't Mule and Lee Roy Parnell.

Jack's guitar playing has been featured on studio albums by Gregg Allman, Bobby Blue Bland, Jimmy Buffett, Chris LeDoux, Billy Montana, The Bacon Brothers and Jimmy Hall, among others.

His versatility and outstanding musicianship can be heard not only on "Step Out!" but also on two other Candlefly releases available on CD Baby...the self-titled instrumental "Jack Pearson" and an acoustic blues duo titled "William Howse & Jack Pearson."

"Step Out!" is Jack's first solo CD and was released in 1994. All ten songs on the disc were written/co-written by Jack, and in addition to playing guitar and singing, he played bass, Hammond organ and keyboards.

A sampling of reviews of "Step Out!"...

"an absolutely brilliant solo album...amazing guitar work, smooth vocals, and some first-rate songwriting...an uplifting and refreshing listening experience..."
Hittin' the Note Magazine

"In a city where guitar pickers almost outnumber cars on the road, Nashville's Jack Pearson numbers among the very best of the entire lot...strong singing that would do The Allman Brothers Band proud...his songs are compact, appealing and harbor intelligent lyrics on rising above trouble."
Music Row Magazine

"He shows the maturity and good taste to let his guitar playing serve the music, rather than the other way around...delivered in an earthy, unforced vocal style. Great grooves."
Music Row Magazine

"a distinctive guitar sound...a soulful feel for the blues...his voice...rings true and full of feeling...the lyrics and hooks will stick in your mind...the kind of music you'll want to hear every couple of weeks for the rest of your life..."

Jack Pearson Does It All !

I've been listening to and playing guitar since about 1962. It was Freddie King's "Hideway" that got me hooked. Since then, I have listened to countless guitarists, singers and song writers. I've lost count. About 10 years ago, I heard a cd by Jimmie Hall called "Rendezvous With The Blues," and heard this fantastic, soulful guitar player named Jack Pearson. After doing as little research on him, I discovered just how versatile and sought-after he was as a guitarist. I also found out what a great songwriter and singer he is. "Step Out" is a great example of his versatility and his soulfulness. But don't limit yourself to just "Step Out." As great as that cd is, Jack's three other cds are equally great. He really does do it all.

Great cd. I agree with everything said previously. I would give it 4.5, but can't give it 5 because nothing is perfect.
