Album Notes

Alan Pedersen has been performing for more than 25 years. An accomplished singer and award winning songwriter, he spent several years writing and recording music in Nashville, Tennessee. Alan has had several songs recorded by other artists.

His writing has not been limited to music, he has written commercials, radio news copy, and collaborations for television shows and other comedy projects. His performing credits are numerous as well. Alan has worked as an actor, stand-up comedian, keynote speaker/emcee, and in radio as a network news and sports reporter for Westwood One Communications.

Currently living in Englewood, Colorado, Alan is the father of four boys and an angel.

In August of 2001 Alan’s life took a tragic turn, his 18-year-old and only daughter Ashley was killed in an automobile accident. This tragedy would take his life in a direction he never imagined. Struggling for months to find answers and trying to cope with tremendous pain and anger, he entered a grief program in Denver, Colorado and began attending monthly meetings of a support organization (The Compassionate Friends.)

Alan credits these organizations with saving his life and inspiring him to honor his daughter’s life by helping others. In July of 2003, Alan released a CD of songs he had written about his walk through the valley of grief, titled Ashley’s Songbook. In 2006, he released a follow up CD titled "A Little Farther Down The Road." Alan now helps others by sharing his story of faith and hope. His message is simple; grief and loss offer the opportunity for ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. He believes that healing begins when we once again give of ourselves by helping others.

Alan speaks and plays his music for churches and grief organizations around the country. In 2008 Alan will release his third CD of original music about the journey bereaved families must walk.

Alan has performed at National Conferences for The Compassionate Friends, Bereaved Parents of the USA, and the World Gathering on Bereavement. Alan will travel and speak 120 times in 2008 for local chapters of TCF, BP-USA, and other grief organizations dedicated to helping families grieving the loss of a child.

It has been 2 years since I lost my dear son, Alfie. But this December was the first time I attended a Candle Lighting Ceremony for Parents who lost children. When we all formed a circle and your music started to play...I listened to the words......touched so deeply, I cried then sobbed. Thank you for reaching deep within your pain and bringing to thw world in the form of music. I seached the internet until I found this ... your site. Thank you again.

Wow! I went to my first candle lighting service in Decemberand heard "Tonight I hold this Candle" for the first time! The emotion was overwhelming so I had to buy the album! I commend Alan for the depth of feeling that he has put in his music about Ashley. I lost my son when he was 18 years old also and the pain is unbearable.

I love the CD. I played it over and over when I received it. I'm so glad I read about it in the Compassionate Friends magazine. It has given me much comfort. Thanks.

The first time I heard, Tonight I Hold This Candle, was at the Compassionate Friends Candlelighting Service in December 2007. We had just lost our 22 year old son, Joshua David, on September 23rd. Our worst nightmare!!! I miss him SOOOO much that I feel like I cannot even breathe... The song was "very powerful" & heartfelt!!!!! Another song, by Alan was played that year called, I Remember You. I wondered if I would be able to get a copy of the music then... Our deepest pain & rememberance is felt in Alan's songs. The music also gives us Hope. This year at the Candlelighting Service, Tonight I Hold This Candle was played again. I came home & got online to check out where I could get ahold of this music. I ended up ordering all 3 of the CD's that I found!!! I had NO DOUBT it would be money well spent. My Mother-In-Law wanted to read what was read at our family Christmas what was read at the Candlelighting Service. I told her even better yet..., that I had ordered the CD & maybe it would arrive in time!! Sure enough it did!! :) We played the song (along with lighting candles, in memory of my Father-In-Law & our Son, Joshua). Of course everyone was in tears. We also had to share my new favorite song, by Alan, I Know You By Heart (I Chase Butterflies). I play the song over & over again... I feel exactly the way this song describes & Alan just put it into words ~ Thank You!!! I DO look for any sign constantly, the butterflies in our Memorial Garden, more shooting stars & "rainbows" in the past year than we've ever seen before... Etc. Etc. Etc. It's truly amazing!! Thank you for ministering to us through your music!!!
