I grew up in a home filled with music. Whether it was listening to or performing Broadway show tunes, Celtic songs, or folk music, all the music found a welcome in the Monaghan household. Most of my brothers and sisters share this connection to music. My older brother Mike sang in a folk music trio. My sister Patricia transcribed the lyrics from more than 1700 songs, so we could all sing them. My other sisters Eileen and Terri often sang us younger kids to sleep with those same songs. Lullaby features many of the songs that I grew up with and came to love with all my heart.
Peggy Monaghan
Peggy Monaghan is a versatile and accomplished singer/songwriter with strong ties to Celtic and folk music. Raised in Alaska, Peggy began her musical career in the San Francisco club scene in the early 1980s. After returning home to Alaska, Peggy found herself performing in numerous venues, producing records, and teaching voice. A founding member of the stellar a capella group The Derry Aires, Peggy continues to expand her musical boundaries with recordings like her critically acclaimed recording, Seasons of the Witch. Lullaby is her return to the sounds and music of her youth.
The birth of Peggy Monaghan's Lullaby can be traced back to the heartfelt desires of young parents in the late 1980s in search of high quality music for their children. They found that excellence in Peggy's voice and her intimate knowledge of Celtic music and heritage. And now, the children who grew up listening to Lullaby have children of their own. To meet the needs of today's audience, Peggy remastered the original 1990 tapes, recorded new vocal and instrumental tracks, and even added a few new songs. The result is a recording that expands the idea of the original Lullaby while paying tribute to the heritage that gave birth to it.
