Album Notes

Peggy White delivers a rootsy blend of folk and country with her earliest influences stemming from traditional country. Her live performances, unadorned, but for acoustic guitar, her voice and her presence are both compelling and real.

Peggy's CD, "Fair Is Fair", produced by Gerry Griffin, was in the top 20 on the Roots Music Report Folk Chart for five weeks, and in the top 100 on the Americana Chart in the US for five weeks. It was also voted in at #12 on the EMSchart in Europe.

For the new album, Peggy has brought on board producer Gerry Griffin and engineers Ken Friesen and Chris Shreenan-Dyck, all of who have extensive studio experience and have worked closely with Grammy Award winning producer/engineers Jeffrey Lesser and Trina Shoemaker. Players on the CD include Miche Pouliot, Maritime Fiddling Champion Kelli Trottier, Canadian folk alumnus Terry Tufts, courtesy of Borealis Records, and Steel Rail's guitarist, Dave Clarke and vocalist, Tod Gorr.

Almonte singer-songwriter Peggy White gets every detail just right on "Fair Is Fair", a collection of sparkling country tunes that favour subtlety over broad musical gestures. Blessed with a smooth, resonant voice, White displays a knack for tapping into the pure emotion of a song without forcing the issue; it's always about delicate phrasing and respecting the piece, particularly on tracks like "There You Stand", "Margaret Adams" and the sublime "Momentary Suicide". "Fair Is Fair" has an impressive guest list: Producer Gerry Griffin (lap steel, mandolin), Terry Tufts (guitar, mandolin, dulcimer), Kelli Trottier (fiddle) and Andy Gorham (Hammond B3 Organ) shine throughout with tasteful, understated performances that allow White's sharp melodies to take flight. A first rate debut.
