an ultra-mellow, though provoking set of down-tempo tracks

The perfect accompaniment to a long nighttime drive through the city, this original score has all your favorite trip-hip-hop elements without the vocals. (So you can talk to yourself without losing your train of thought.) Listing Isaac Hayes, Portishead and Pink Floyd as his influences, chief songwriter/producer Brian Burton has pieced together an ultra-mellow, though provoking set of down-tempo tracks that beg one simple question: what the hell is the actual movie about? Chances are, you’ve never heard of it, let alone see it, but we’re not reviewing movies here anyways, are we? "The Bleeding Fader," with its bluesy,
acoustic guitar riffing and regal horn samples, holds its own with any trip-hop instrumental by one of the "big boys." "The Chase" works a little Spanish fly into the mix, but still holds true to belief that loose grooves (looped just enough times) work magic in any stereo. "This is story of growing up," says a scratched-up sample at the tracks end. True enough. Though there’s definitely room to grow, The Chilling Effect’s soundtrack is a pretty good start. - Rich Thomas

A swell album to zone out to. Brilliantly moody.

This is the kind of cd you stick in your player and have it play over and over and over again...and you don't mind at all. It's the kind of album you listen to when you are working on your art or throwing a swanky dinner party or simply want to zone out into nothingness. I say thumbs up.

This album is a great mixture of melodic guitars and strings with touches of hip-hop and electronic beats. The Fool, which remixes a Neutral Milk Hotel song, is great both on its own, and for fans of the band. I'm excited to see where this band can take their sound.
