Ann Pence wrote these songs as a tribute to her friends and as an "auntie" to her friends' children from China. The songs begin with the baby, left in a box or a basket, at the gates of another life. The cycle ends when this adopted child has grown up and goes back to China, searching for the connection we all search for, whether adopted or not.

Gottcha Day
author: Gregory Magarian
I stumbled across the album somehow and decided that the title alone would be worth ordering, much as giving a gift of flowers to my 22 year old daughter adopted just 6 years ago from Kazakhstan. At the time, she was likely the oldest child adopted to the US from Kazakhstan . She came home from college to celebrate her 6th Gottcha Day last weekend. She cleared the US Embassy in Moscow 1 1/2 hours before closing the Friday before her Sunday 16th birthday. Monday would have been too late!!! You have to clear the embassy BEFORE your 16th birthday. She landed in American on her 16th birthday, welcomed by a large crowd and TV cameras. It was a Cinderilla story come true. She was very taken by the title of the album, that there could be such a album written and sung specifically for celebrating one's Gottcha Day. She also very much liked the songs, even though written for much younger children. I will be gettting one for our 14 year old who was away at a weekend camp and unaware of the gift to her older sister.
