Michael American: The first CD release by Penis Fly Trap (from the CD/Split w/ Kermit's Finger 1996)
The disc that begins the band's 3 album trilogy (Michael American, Civil War II, Triple Suicide) with a primal scream from Lars and ends with ferocious Free Birdian X guitar. In between is the subtle, not-so-serious, story of struggle and counter-adaptation in an absurd society.
Recorded and Engineered at Zippah by Pete Weis in 1995 this marks the last studio recording by Penis Fly Trap before they started recording and producing themselves. “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” --Theodore Roosevelt.
The song Sticky Vowels was a staple on Boston college radio in the mid-nineties and Photo of Dead Man and Punk Rock Is Dead are still performed live at every show. Larry Sub remains the bands most requested encore.
The original song writing and lead vocals of founding member Lars Paul Linden is predominant on Michael American. Lars, who left the band in 1999 still appears on every PFT release via a vast archive of material that was recorded between 1992 and 2000.
Michael American is the Three Chords and a Cloud of Dust attack that launched the semi-intelligent and semi-stupid music that Penis Fly Trap has been making for nearly 15 years.
