Album Notes

Growing up with an AM radio attached to ear helped shape the music of Penny Jo Pullus. Part country, part rock and roll. She has proven that she can ably make this Americana genre her own.

It's been 5 years since Penny Jo, who led the alt. Country band "Penny Jo's Trailer Trash" in Northern N.Y. packed up and headed south. She consciously bypassed the rigidity of Nashville to that eclectic musical mecca known as Austin, Texas. Penny Jo has been honing her rockin' country stylings while putting together a scorching band that blends honesty along with gorgeous melodies and harmonies. Her voice is compelling. One that can morph from a sultry country croon, to a rockabilly hiccup, or into the rasp and belt of a bluesy rocker with effortless ease. Penny Jo is an up and comer who needs to be watched closely. The mayor of Austin agrees naming May17th "Penny Jo Pullus Day" in Austin Texas!

Late May 2002 will see Penny Jo's third independent studio album released titled "My Turn to Howl." Produced by Ron Flynt at Jumping Dog Studios, it features an Austin star studded lineup with Ian Maclagan, Earl Poole Ball, Sweet Mary Hattersley, Scrappy Jud, Casper Rawls, Chip Dolan, Paul Skelton, Herb Stiener, Karen Poston, Susanna Van Tassel, Libbi Bosworth, Jeff Hughes, Brad Fordham and a kick ass duet with honky-tonker Kevin Fowler.

You may also find her singing with Austin's legendary outfit, "The Greezy Wheels." Catch her with the full band or as an acoustic duo. Great energy and great songs, Austin Americana at its finest!

This is the album we heard promised in the "Lucky #7" songs. Here is Penny Jo Pullus singing her best to date. There are a lot of good songs in this playlist, 6 of them written or co-written by Penny Jo (I love singer/songwriters). My favorite tracks are 1,3,6,7 & especially 9, "Don't Get Me Started". She sure has a lot to howl about now!!

"My Turn to Howl" is certainly well titled... it is indeed Penny Jo Pullus' turn

"My Turn to Howl" is certainly well titled... it is indeed Penny Jo Pullus' turn to howl; to howl in triumph over her most musically successful CD to date. This is the recording toward which every artist strives. Penny Jo Pullus brings all her singing and songwriting talents together on this excellent CD. It is a delightful mix of country-western, two-step shuffles and rockin' toe-tappers that produces a smooth, seamless sound with energy and freshness. Beautifully produced by Ron Flynt (20/20), Penny Jo's voice never sounded better and the instruments are clean, clear and do not overpower her vocals. Penny Jo skillfully blends country-roots sounds with a rock beat. Her voice is a force to be reckoned with on this CD, incorporating the classic country "break" as well as anyone can, along with a guttural burr like a punch to the gut. She can go from sweet, young girl to strong, powerful woman in "under 60 seconds."
