Long summer nights were spent alone in the basement to bring you James Pequignot's latest album. Often fueled by inappropriate amounts of Denny's coffee, the writing and recording sessions would often last until 7 a.m.
A follow up to last year's "Sweet December," "Plane Crash Sound Track" is a far cry from its predecessor. It paints a musical picture, using instrumentation and sound to make you feel just as much as the words.
One thing stays consistent in all of James's works: the songs are incredibly well written. They are staggeringly different than the popular music that plays on the radio. These songs seem to carry much more truth. They speak of life and love as they are, not as we wish they would be. James does know how to write Rock and Roll with a hook though, and you will quickly find yourself singing along.
The album plays out very cinematically. There are very few pauses in-between songs, and the noise transitions will carry you through without shaking the illusion. It's hard to find artists anymore who really pay attention to making an album as one cohesive unit, but James has done just that.
Take a vacation from the everyday music you listen to. Sit down with Plane Crash Sound Track and explore a unique musical sound-scape reminiscent of Wilco and Radiohead. Take some time and find out what these songs mean to you. It's quite possible that there's a different message in there for everyone.

Painting with broad strokes on a new canvas
author: Mark
James follows up his introspective CD, "Sweet December", with "Plane Crash Sound Track" and you can hear his muscial growth and maturity in only a year. With this release James has branched out and took chances musicially which can remind the listener of bands such as Wilco and Radiohead in regards to experimentation. The nice part about James is that he doesn't really limit himself within a genre... Back to Zero is very Ben Folds-esque and Lie Detector is a very jazzy arrangement. As a whole the CD is very solid, stand out tracks include Empty Parachute, Boomerang, and the anitway statement No Way Home.
