"It's all about good songs", says Jim Perry. "This is not rocket science. Whenever I'm writing, I always try to relax and let it flow. You can tell if someone is forcing a song out". On Jim's debut solo CD, "Moment of Truth", the melodies and hooks flow abundantly. Nothing sounds forced here. Jim lets his influences show through, but not too much. There are shades of Eric Clapton, The Beatles, Billy Joel, Jackson Browne....etc., yet it all molds into Jim's own style.
Not only has Jim written every song on this CD, but with the exception of a few drum tracks, he plays every instrument, and sings all the vocal parts. "I've always felt this stuff stirring around in my head", says Jim, "and I decided, what the hell, I HAVE to get it out". So, in early 2002, in one 3 month spurt of creativity, he finally got it done.
From the opening track, the Claptonesque "Raincheck On Romance", the energy is high, and you can tell this is no routine CD. Songs like "Tavern Town", "Harry's Song (Between the Cracks)", and the topical "Category" take you through many different songwriting styles, yet there is a common thread throughout.
In the title song, Jim sings "I wanna be there when the Moment of Truth arrives at your doorstep". Says Jim, "That was actually autobiographical, written in third person. I was basically telling myself to just get off my ass and do it!" He finally has, and "Moment of Truth" is the excellent result.

I'm lucky enough to have Jim as my guitar teacher, and all that time I had no idea that he could put out these kind of tunes. Way to go Jim, you really nailed this one.
