Personally, I like this album better than the original soundtrack.
While the OST was great, it was largely filler music made up of easily recognized riffs and arpeggios, but not much in the way of musical continuity in each track (with a few notable exceptions, such as "Inara's Suite"). A lot of the tracks on the OST have that gritty Firefly feel, but are also reminiscent of someone just playing around on an instrument--it's easy to imagine the music fitting in with the crew of Serenity, but it's not exactly captivating on a CD.
"Sounds of the Verse" takes the themes illustrated in the OST and expounds them into unique, full-length, well-crafted songs, each of which tells a distinct, original, yet very familiar story. Rather than just the occasional riff of familiar guitar or moody piano, Sounds of the Verse brings the virtues of each instrument and imagined location forward in each song. In short, it has the feel of Firefly, but doesn't cater to the made-for-TV requirements of most soundtracks. Highly recommended.

Not *quite*

This is a great albumn. It's not *quite* as good as the 'original soundtrack', but it comes a VERY close second. Some of the tracks are awesome, some are a little monotonous, but all in all, well worth the moneh & I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the music in either Firefly or Serentity.

"Sounds of the Verse"

This is a great CD for all "Firefly"/"SERENITY" fans. Pretty much captures the "home entertainment" of the campfire. Hope they do a follow up.
