Really cool album

The first time that I put this album in my CD player to when I play it now I continue to be impressed and amazed by the musicianship and songs of the Pete Weise Quartet. This album is one of favorite and Pete Weise is a magnificent player that has taught me a great many things about being a guitarist, a musician and the life lessons that go along with them.

Masch Branch is truely a phenomenal album. As for the style, it's very tasteful, but always remains exciting and interesting. Everyone plays for the benefit of the song as a whole, rather than for the benefit of making the individual sound good. Even in the solos, it isn't about one person, but about the group. This gives the group a wonderful sense of balance. And then Pete's playing is, of course, stellar. And oh my god his tone! lets take a minute to appreciate Pete Weise's tone... My personal favourites are Gun Night, One Of Them, Water Sports and Camp Bowie Blues (the other two songs on the album are a close second). Although each song stands out on it's own, I think the album is best when it's listened to as a whole. Each track is definitely unique but they have just enough of the same vibe to be distinguishable as a "Masch Branch tune".

As a musician and songwriter this cd caught my ear and held my attention fast. Pete Weise is one of the best young jazz guitarists out there and this CD marks the beginning of a promising career of a modern jazz composer. I listen to all kinds of music and really enjoy the cool/funky/intelligent style of this record. I highly recommend it. Everyone who hears it is instantly impressed.

There’s something very cool and sophisticated about this album that really sets it apart from a lot of others that are around. Pete Weise is a very talented and innovative musician with a unique style that draws influences from many different areas. This style really shows through on Masch Branch and makes for a very memorable and original recording. Favorite tracks of mine include Gun Night and Under Tow, although I can happily listen to this album from start to finish. Very cool indeed.
