Heartfelt and straightforward
author: Brian Snead
Such a sense of utter sincerity is conveyed in the composition and performance of these songs as to betray the almost intangible innocence of a young mother who is also a young and beautiful woman (see CD liner and website). We hear Petrossi learning how to be not one or the other but both, how to be the person it has taken her a lifetime to develop and how to let her children develop in their own way. It is a rare thing to hear a songwriter transposing these kinds of thoughts and emotions so non self-consciously, even though it leaves her completely vulnerable. She could have easily taken cover under conventional rhyme schemes or a series of clichéd phrases but that would have been entirely antithetical. Petrossi would, I think, rather be exposed than buried. This finds its way even into the very form of the songs. If she thinks the tempo should increase, it increases; if she thinks a phrase should sink in, she delays the commencement of the next line or section long enough for you to soak it up. But such manipulation does not get us bogged down in sentimental gush or philosophic groping: the introspection wears smiling eyes and we can still groove to it. The simple and tasteful production never gets in the way nor does any overplaying simply because such things are unnecessary: Petrossi has crafted these songs in such a way that they work in her own two hands and are a delight to hear fully instrumentated.

I've had the pleasure of seeing Tiffany live several times and have always wandered what her music would sound like with a live band. On this album I get the answer to that. This album elevates Tiffany's music from a great singer/songwriter to ROCK STAR status! There is so much variety on the CD, with both slow and melodic heartfelt tunes, to something upbeat like Flying High which you might hear in a hip club. This is a must have...I'll bet that it will be a collector's item when she hits it big.

Her sound is evolving nicely.

Having just listened to the new album by Tiffany Petrossi, I must say, it is nice to hear her with a much more full sound. The addition of more instrumentation is a nice touch, but one that has not caused her to lose the sincere or personal approach she takes to her songs. If she continues with the progression of her sound, without sacrificing what makes her songs unique, we will all be in for some good music in the years to come.
