Album Notes

“Opus 2” (full-length CD) is the second extensive work by Phanatos, featuring dark yet desirous expressions, neo-classical/gothic compositions with a touch of film music vibes..and also some inspiration from the east…But especially the “heart-thoughts” and “mind-feelings” of the composer himself.

Phanatos is a composer/musician/artist from Sweden creating music within neo-classical/gothic/”filmic” music. Much time and effort; soul and emotions are put in Phanatos’ compositions – which often represents feelings/mindstates such as desire, melancholy and lust. A mixture of hope and strokes of hopelessness at the same time…Love in its soiled yet still immaculate form.

In late 1999/early 2000 Phanatos started on some musical embryos which after hard work grew to be what now is known as “Part I-III”, three compositions released as a CDr featuring music with VERY much emotions put in the musical themes. Probably the deepest Phanatos ever has been within in his mind when creating these songs. Music from very dark corners of a human soul, yet with a desirous glow of romantic striving and hope, in the streams of dark melancholy/hopelessness.
After these three “parts” the idea came to continue – creating more music in this same style, the continuation of the first three Parts. After more intense composing efforts the next three parts of this chapter was finished and released in 2002.
Now this work had begun to take an even larger form and the idea of doing three final, conluding parts to this extensive work felt natural.
“Part VII-IX” was begun to be worked on in 2003 but it wasn’t until 2005 that these compositions were completely finalized. Now featuring some more vocal parts, and being a progression of the previous parts, and the closure to this mindful emotional journey, which somehow starts with the feeling of forever lost love and hope..and ends….well, how it all ends are for Phanatos to know and for the listener of the opus and its last three parts to interpret…Let’s just say that love and lust are strong forces in the heart of Phanatos…

After the completion of this first work, unofficially known as “Part I-IX” – now was the time to continue with the work of the SECOND extensive opus of Phanatos. A work which were to be called “Opus 2” (naturally). Not only were 8 new compositions created, but as extension to the music, short literary stories and some poetry were also conceived parallel to the music. The idea was and is that this literary part of the work (available as a 24-page booklet) and musical part – music created with much much effort as always – were to work together in a symbiosis. The stories “enhancing” and giving an extra depth to the music, and vice versa.
Yet the music can of course be consumed on its own too. The “main” part of this work is the musical CD.

After some label hunting in spring and summer 2007 where both nice feedback and some signing interest were shown, yet no deal offer could be found that felt interesting enough, therefore Phanatos decided to release this CD on an own label, Phanatos Productions – to maintain full creative control and integrity regarding his work. Opus 2 was released in fall 2007.
And the aim is to reach out more with this music, promoting it towards magazines and zines and other media channels around the world. To reach out to a wider audience; and those already discovered Phanatos and his music have pronounced VERY positive feedback to the creations.

So, if you have read this far, thanks for your interest and hope you will enjoy the music of PHANATOS.
