Album Notes

2002 SF Weekly Music Award Winner!

Imagine if The Stray Cats, The Ventures, The Kinks and Devo were galactic pioneers, and joined forces to defend the earths right to "rocket roll". The Phenomenauts combine the sounds of:Pop, Psychobilly, Rock 'n' Roll, Sci-Fi outerspace

The band has just recorded their first full-length release, titled, "Rockets to Robots." Take a trip through the galaxy after blasting off from our home planet, EARTH. See what happens to this "rocket roll" band as they tumble through space and beyond.

"...'Rockets and Robots' from The Phenomenauts, captures all of the excitement and energy of their outrageous live show. Truly a spectacle to be experienced with all of the senses," Cutting Edge Magazine

"...off-the-wall live show leaves a smile on your face," San Jose Metro

2002 Best Live Band/ Best of the East Bay Express, Katy St. Clair

"The Phenomenauts have all the earmarks of icons in the making. They're taking performance art to the airwaves...I'm just glad it's fun to listen to," Richard Klein of *Surface Magazine.

"Perfect audio representation of a truly amazing live show.. " Elvis Costello

The Phenomenauts are becoming infamous for their 'commando-style' street performances, where they set up in front of big venues such as the legendary Fillmore, and perform for the crowds leaving the show. They've hit every major venue in San Francisco, as well as numerous street fairs. Their most recent commando performance took place at the annual California Music Awards, where the band snuck in to the backstage VIP area and set up their battery-powered equipment. They played 3 songs before security asked them to stop, realizing they could not unplug them. They went on to join partygoers, many of whom expressed admiration for their bravery.

The Phenomenauts have also engineered their own line of Phenoma-gadgets. The streamerator, a tricked-out leaf blower, blasts a whole roll of toilet paper out into the crowd in a few seconds. The thera-helmet, a skateboard helmet with a wireless theramin attached to the top, creates a sci-fi sound like you might hear on old Star Trek episodes. They have also customized their own Phenoma-vehicles, bringing their space image to the streets. The Phenoma-Bomber, more space ship than 83 Dodge Van, is accompanied by the Phenomenator, the smaller scout ship that features rocket fins and reverse thrusters. Both have received acclaim from national art car festivals.
