Album Notes

Phenotract was started in 1999 as a means of experimenting with electronic sounds, textures, and rhythms to create synthetic workouts geared for both the dancefloor and the mind. Since it's inception, founder Eric Shans has drawn influences from both older and newer techno, house, trance, and electronic body music to create and instill lasting impressions on the listener. A lot of songs were recorded over a period of a few years that consisted of pulsing beats, racing synths, catchy melodies, and aggressive vocals which conjured up a definitive electro- industrial dance sound. A full length demo entitled "Fallout" was finally released in 2001 which was well received. The song - "Paralax-On" appeared on the ToneDeaf Records Compilation "Taking Notes 01" and was the first song to be released on a label.
As the project's sound grew and time passed, the tracks that were being written morphed into more formidable structures, which have become more melody laden and carried an evolved and distinct sound and groove. Another album was written and consisted of a myriad of anthemic hooks, funky beats, and both clean and treated vocals. Phenotract efforts have also brought aboard the help of Isaac Glendening of Cesium 137 which has co-produced a fair amount of the later songs - further collaborations with him and other artists are planned as well. As time progressed, Phenotract kept striving to keep recreating its sonic aesthetic and continues to do so.
"Within A Second" combines chunky dance floor tracks, chilled out moments, and atmospheric moods. It catapaults the listener into a dreamy otherwordly landscape running through the gamut of emotions and digitally cataloging the human condition.

REVIEWS

excellent
author: John Morris
This is an excellent mix of techno, new wave, trance, and industrial. It's originality stems from the fact that it does not fit it one category and Phenotract seems to wear it's influences on it's sleeve. Sci fi textures, catchy melodies, and and great percussion add to the songs which stand their own quite nicely. Recommended highly to fans of 80s new wave with a hard tech sound and electronic music fans in general.
