"Shades & Color" is the latest remix offering from the Brooklyn based electronica act Phenotract. Comprised of 6 tracks total, "Shades and Color" takes tracks from both of the band's previous albums and adds a brand new song as well. The focus track, "A Million Colors", gets 2 remix treatments. The first mix, "Justin's Sugarfloss Mix", shines bright with its added guitar and expanded-upon pop sensibilities while the Phenotract ambient mix takes a darker and more cavernous approach. Phenotract has also remixed both "Connections Missed" and "Twilight Haze" and they have had the energy factor turned up with tougher, updated sounds. "Distant Voices (Rick Nicholas's Multi-Voice mix)" has a surreal and eerie atmosphere to it and it's deconstructed from the original version brilliantly while "Dead Ringers" closes things out with a full on electro-house workout meant for any DJ's crate. This EP is a teaser for Phenotract's new album to be released in the fall of 2009.
