"Soulful and jagged and groovy and minimal and weird and righteous in the sweetest way...I find myself doing a funny jerky dance whenever I hear these tunes..."- Chris Ballew, frontman for the band "The Presidents of the United States of America".
A child of two artists, Philana Goodrich grew up on Orcas Island, Washington in a cabin on the beach. Philana's influences were nothing short of unusual.
“We lived on a dance floor. Literally. Dad never got around to finishing our bedrooms, so at night we’d push out a mattress right where he taught his classes during the day”.
With raw sincerity and soulful invention, Philana pushes through the constraints of conventional pop. Her musical style can be found somewhere between the lush synth landscapes of the 80’s and the raw soul of the 60’s.
In his review of her debut album, 'Arrows For Everyone', Greg Roth for "Seattle Music Insider" writes, "Philana Goodrich writes, arranges, sings and plays piano and keyboard. She is the total package. When you get tired of pop candy and are ready for a nutritious musical meal, put on some Philana Goodrich".
Philana and her band have been performing in the Seattle area for the past two years. The five-piece band is known for its tight performances and versatility with a variety of instruments, which include: vocals; keyboards; drums; bass; tambourine; sax, and trumpet. Members are: Philana Goodrich; Jordan Clark; Derek DeGroot; Chaz Altman, and Scotty X.
