There's too much formulaic stuff out there, so I was excited to find an artist making an album which can hold my attention all the way through. _Child_ is a wonderful smorgasbord of audial stimulation, both her whispery voice and the arrangements, which run the gamut from pop/dance to folky guitar to almost new age ambient. But even more important to me were the lyrics. How long has is been sicne you heard someone combine great music with heartfelt words that weren't written to be easily digestible by a 14-year old mindset ? Philein takes us on a journey, her journey, through emotional and social experiences that we've all known. I gather that her dance style is also a deeper merging of asian and western styles than has been seen before. I'm looking forward to a chance to check that out too. If you could use something new, I highly recommend Philein's debut album.
