Album Notes

Reynold D. Philipsek is known primarily in recent years as a highly skilled composer and jazz guitarist. His recent CDs are in the Gypsy Jazz vein but for much of his earlier career he released recordings which exhibited his skills as a singer/songwriter.

Long Ago, Far Away is a "best of" compilation of newly remastered tracks from his back catalog of recordings which fall into the Pop realm but with ample Jazz and Classical overtones. Randy Newman, XTC, The Beatles, Jellyfish and Harry Nilsson come to mind while still maintaining a unique character.

Many of these tracks utilize Philipsek's skill as an arranger for strings, woodwinds and brass. Philipsek has been hired by many Minnesota Pop acts as an arranger and has contributed his arrangements to many noteworthy recordings in this way. Tunes like Long Ago, Far Away, 20th Century Good-bye and Bangkok Sunset are just three examples of Beatles-like Pop in an orchestral setting.
