If Michael Bublé had a higher energy big-band and a really big voice, and also sang groovy Bosa Nova songs in original Portuguese, he might sound like Washington, DC's own Phillip Nelson.

Album Notes

"It's a dreamy, romantic set of jazz and Brazilian standards, on which his rich tenor deftly channels the sophisticated pop of Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis and Mel Tormé." - The Washington Post Express

"The fantastic, debut CD from Washington, DC-based signer Phillip Nelson Since I Fell for You is a truly heartfelt collection of American and Brazilian jazz standards from such noted composers as Cole Porter (“I Get a Kick out of You,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”), Rodgers & Hart (“My Funny Valentine,” “The Lady is a Tramp”), and Antonio Carlos Jobim (“Insensatez,” “The Girl from Ipanema”) to name a few. Nelson’s passion for his chosen genre of music is abundantly clear throughout this lovingly crafted disc, as he brings his rich vocal textures and nuanced expressions to each impressive selection. Other standouts include the balmy “Brasil,” sultry “Angel Eyes” and bluesy title track. Don’t miss Phillip Nelson’s Since I Fell for You." - Q Media Reviews / EXP Magazine

Phillip Nelson is a classically trained jazz singer whose love of the Great American Songbook shines through his stage personality and smooth baritone voice.

Raised in Portland, Oregon, Phillip gained an early appreciation for the Pacific Northwest Jazz tradition, and has been stylistically influenced by a wide range of vocal artists. He reflects this variety in performing a range from blues to Bossa Nova to big band and swing.

Phillip has been a part of the Washington, DC music scene for over ten years, and is a member of the Washington Area Music Association and the DC Cabaret Network.
Phillip was inspired to pursue his lifelong dream of recording a professional CD after recovering from cancer; that CD, his first, is “Since I Fell For You.”

“Since I Fell For You” was produced by Marco Delmar at Recording Arts studio in Fairfax, Virginia, and recorded by George Heid at Heid Studios in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The album features original big band arrangements by Jacob Yoffee.

Performer and Music- Inspiring
author: Peter Burke
Everything about both the performer's story and his music is inspiring. How did the Washington Post Express put it- Dreamy and Romantic. Especially liked the slower, lower register selections.
