Album Notes

The Philly 5 is 5 of the top musicians in the Philadelphia area. We are dedicated jazz musicians. Collectively we've played all over the world.

The most well known of us is John Swana, probably one of the greatest jazz trumpet players in the world today. John's bio is extensive and includes most of the top names in jazz. He is currently recording on the Chris Cross recording label. John currently teaches at the University of the Arts.

Chris Farr is one of the top tenor players in Philly. Currently he is Gerald Veasley's musical director and performs non-stop all around the area.

Tony Miceli is the area's busiest vibist. He plays all over having toured nationally and internationally. Some of his bands include Monkadelphia (cd can be found on www.Dreamboxmedia.com). He also has his own trios and quartets, one of which plays the music of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and other artists from the 60's. He has a website dedicated to helping students learn to improvise. The site is www.larrysimprovpage.com. Tony currently teaches at University of the Arts and Rowan University.

Maddison Rast and Dan Monaghan are Philly's most in demand rhythm section musicians. Maddison Teaches at Bucks County Community College and Dan is at Temple University.

We can all be seen regularly at Chris' Jazz Café and Ortlieb's Jazz House, Philly's 2 top jazz clubs.

We've played and worked together for years now. Spending hours together working and practicing. This cd reflects all our hard work in striving to be great jazz musicians.
