ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Hailing from the Northern Kentucky-Greater Cincinnati region, Philosopher's Stone is truly a unique alternative/indie rock band that consistently strives to create and never emulate. By taking a lush and somewhat poppy approach to their song writing, they create layers of melodic rhythms that can be best described as an atmospheric almost stream of consciousness vibe. Their sound is often compared to others in their genre such as Sea and Cake, Modest Mouse, and The Flaming Lips.

Since the formation of the band in the spring of 2001, Philosopher's Stone has been hard at work on both the stage and in the studio. March of 2002 brought the independent release of their debut full length recording, "The Goods and the Ills" and with it came rave reviews. Mike Breen of CityBeat wrote, "This trio's sound is so novel that it's refreshingly difficult to draw direct comparisons. The group's songs have a fluid, watery vibe that feels very organic, and they don't write in an expected Pop format, eschewing the cookie-cutter verse/chorus style for an atmospheric approach that simply pours forth and develops naturally".

"The Goods and the Ills" also received the honor of being listed as one of the 2002 best local artist CDs as well as its lead single "Soliloquy" was mentioned as one of the most memorable local cuts of 2002 by Cincinnati's premier music publication CityBeat.

Philosopher's Stone is currently hard at work on their follow up full length recording expected to be released in late 2004. They currently have a demo of three beautiful new songs that should keep your taste buds wet with anticipation for the new album.
