Phil Soussan/Vibrate -- Awesome Musician, very nice songs
author: Cyrill
Very nice Pop Rock Songs. Melodic and diversified. Cool arrangements, good producing, awesome musicians. Phil Soussan seems to be a very good songwriter, singer and musician, playing bass, guitars, keys on most of the songs supplemented by cool guitar solos by Steve Lukather, Ritchie Kotzen etc. and groovy drums by Simon Philips and Greg Bissonette. Congratulations and many Thanks, Phil!!

PHIL SOUSSAN
VIBRATE [Puss In Blue, 2006]

For those of you who haven't yet heard it, I think many of you will enjoy Phil Soussan's Vibrate CD, featuring Steve Lukather, Ritchie Kotzen, Gregg Bissonette, Simon Phillips, David Paich, Steve Porcaro and other LA rock greats!
Phil Soussan is of course known for his time as bass player for Ozzy Osbourne (for whom he wrote the hit "Shot in the Dark"), Billy Idol, Ritchie Kotzen, Steve Lukather's band, Jimmy Page, John Waite and many others with whom you may have seen him perform during international tours during the last 20 years. In more recent years, Phil has also become a respected producer, with production credits on an array of top-quality CD's and DVD's. Phil's talents for strong melodies and catchy hooks are prevalent throughtout the Vibrate CD.
As well as being one of THE nicest guys in rock n' roll, London-born Phil Soussan is also an accomplished guitarist and vocalist, as the Vibrate CD demonstrates in abundance. With crisp & clean production techniques, recorded at both his own studio and at Simon Phillips' Phantom Studios in Los Angeles, Vibrate includes a mix of Gabriel-esque acoustic rock (Elderberry Tree) with some hard-rocking and funky tunes (Friend By My Side) featuring Phil's distinctive - and distinguished - bass playing. Phil's influences include U2, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Beatles, Tom Petty, Aimee Mann, XTC, Seal, Toto, John Waite, Johnny Hallyday, Jimmy Page, Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol, Vince Neil, Steve Lukather, Richie Kotzen, Edgar Winter - and the class shines through. Vibrate is a "keeper".
With clever lyrics and thoughtfully considered continuity, I'd suggest that Vibrate is one of the more intelligent and purposeful new albums of the last couple of years. The refreshing clean sounds are truly a pleasure yet there's more than enough "rawk" to satisfy old habits! It's all about the vibe!
I strongly recommend this CD, especially to Journey, Toto, Pink Floyd & Peter Gabriel fans!

With a lot today's music is, there are not many cd's come out in which I can honestly find inspiring. That is, until now. On Vibrate, the songwriting is incredible, almost flawless. Catchy grooves, hooks, beautiful melodies, wicked guitar solos(with feeling!), along with great lyrical content, complete this masterpiece from front to back. From the groovy opening track, Human Race, to the the Pink Floyd inspired last track, Water's Edge, this cd is full of amazing music. A combination of rock, pop, classic, and alternative sounds, makes for a well crafted album. You won't be disappointed when you buy this cd. It's just like a shot in the dark......always creeping up on you!
