Passion and pain equals ecstacy
author: Todd Carper
I have long been a Phil Vincent fan, and this CD definitely did nothing but improve on that standing. One might wonder how you improve on perfection, but Phil Vincent manages to do just that on this his 11th magnum opus by doing what has come natural since his very first release; namely never stopping the growth process. Phil vincent is never content to stand pat and just pump out one release after another of the same brand of music, he alwasy manages to weave in new textures to his music. On the releases under his own name, Phil plays and produces everything; this means he sings and plays every note and orchestrates the entire project but they never sound the same. Somehow some way, he manages to sound fresh by trusting the gifts he was blessed with, which is quite simply an amazing voice and a knack for placing the right hook in the right place in every song. Phil vincent does this by calling on an articulate range of songwriting skills and a fantastic set of influences as far as his own musical icons are concerned. Add to that a classically trained background and you have an artist that has managed to write one fabulous song after another. This release is no different, with twelve new treasures to choose from. Personal favorites include the multi-faceted multiple tempo'ed Rumors part 1 and 2, the ripping opener New Way to Live, the superb mid temp textures of One Chance and the ultra cool Top of the World. There is not a bad track on the CD, it is one highlight after another. Folks if you have never bought a Phil Vincent CD, this is a great place to start; give this a chance it is likely that you will want to buy every Phil Vincent CD you can!
