"Phoenix spent the waning days of the last millennium with his dog and two horses, making his way from Montana down to the Mexican border where he swapped his horses for a jeep and continued south. This journey was a meditation, an opportunity to try and make sense of this crazy world, especially its hateful, selfish inhabitants who seem bent on treating the world- and each other- like a baby treats a diaper...
Phoenix's songs rise from the ashes of his journey south. They explore the forces that are threatening to unwind the fabric of the world, as well as those forces that still manage to bind it all together...
Phoenix is a native voice singing in a medium that is very much post-colonial American, from folk to rock to whatnot. But before anyone gets a hair to pigeonhole anybody, Phoenix's sound is very much his own thing....The music is crisp. The lyrics are deep and substantial. The overall sound is unified and beautiful."
-Ari LeVaux THE INDEPENDENT
"Kindred Spirits" is a soulful expression of peace, love and gratitude for the opportunity of life on this earth. It asks for responsibility for the history that has brought us all here, while exploring our essential relationship with the natural world. Phoenix questions the legacy we leave our children in our attitude towards one another and the earth, while sharing the gifts of hope and wonder in the commonality of human experience. "Kindred Spirits" breaks down racial barriers and transcends culture, time and place with the redemption of the bird that is his namesake. For fans of Dave Matthew, Ben Harper and Tracy Chapman, "Kindred Spirits" is an album not to be missed.

This C.D. has been an accompaniment through many miles, actual and proverbial.

This album has comforted me, validated my anger and rage, and consumed me with energy. I have taken it running, hiking, and on road trips across Utah, Idaho, and over the waters to Alaska. If you live your life ethically and strive to make sense of this world full of hypocrisy and violence, this C.D. will be indispensable. Phoenix is a saint of modern times with something to say. Please listen.
