The Phor Mindz Group consists of four M.C's ,
Benu, Hakim, D- Banger and Br. Blakphut "Dat Blu Kat",
featuring guest vocalist Ihsan Muhammad .
"Phor Mindz" was assembled by producer/musician Kahlil Kwame Bell.
When asked why the group was assembled Kahlil stated " There were many people who came to me and asked me about conscious hip hop and M.C's who performed the art. I knew of many within various poetry circles. Most of these artists were known for spoken word performance, not the ability to M.C . Benu and Ihsan had been featured on previous K.K.B recordings and were the first to be considered for this project ."
Benu's style reminds one of M.C's such as KRS ONE, Rakim, and The Jungle Brothers.
Hakim's style is reminicent of M.C's such as Q.Tip from the group Tribe Called Quest or Magoo the M.C often heard with Timberland and Missy Elliot.
D-Banger's flow is consistent with artists such as DMX and Ja Rule .
Br. Blakphut has his own individual style. His unique use of the ebonic language sets him apart from your average M.C.
Featured Vocalist Ishan Muhammad is the icing on the cake.
She represents the punctuation in every statement .
Kahlil states that the purpose of this recording is to remind listeners that there are various styles and forms of Hip Hop, containing no profanity or decadence.

Finally, a level of consciousness returns to HipHop. I played this for my 9 year-old niece and she purchased her own copy to listen to on the way to school everyday. Thanks for creating lyrics that Parents and children can enjoy together. I love the combination of MC's,especially "dat Blu Kat". KRS-one would be proud.

One of things that I noticed right away was the subject matter. It is very positive and progressive. The music is funky. I also like the interaction between the MC's. Each MC had his own style and personality. Lastly, I think that this project definately appeals to old school and new school listeners alike.
