Album Notes

Jim Photoglo's 1980 debut album produced the Top 30 Pop hit "We Were Meant To Be Lovers", while a second release in '81 featured "Fool in Love With You" reaching #23 on Billboard's Pop Chart. In '84 Jim moved to Nashville to focus on songwriting and has since had songs recorded by numerous Country, Pop and R&B artists, including two #1s on the Country Chart: Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's "Fishin' In The Dark" and Alabama's "Hometown Honeymoon". Jim co-founded local bands Run C&W and Vinyl Kings, and produced four more solo albums including the critically acclaimed "Fly Straight Home" and “Sparks In The Radio”.

A singer’s songwriter does it his way.
author: Steve Ramm
Singer/songwriter Photoglo has been crafting music for over 30 years. In the 70s he he recorded three albums – with a couple of hit singles – and then headed to Nashville to write songs for the likes of Vince Gill, Kenny Rogers, Travis Tritt and Kathy Mattea (to name just a few. You know his “Fishin’ in the Dark” which is a signature song for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. He made a few more albums in the 90s and then joined a bluegrass “cover” band (Run C&W). In 2005 he was back in the studio with “Sparks on the Radio”. Then nothing until now (2009) when “Is It Me?” was released. Listening to this CD you can here you can hear why the above noted country artists have recorded Photoglo’s songs. The title track is truly “radio ready” for Top Country radio stations. Any of the “hat acts” could take this to the top. But Photoglo write some quieter songs with great lyrics (“Partners” is my favorite in this vein). One of the tracks (“Here For You Now”) was co-written with Jonatha Brooke. There’s a southern feel to numbers like “Kudzu” and a jazz beat to “That’s What I’m Talkin’ About”. Don’t check your speakers when “It Used To Take A Little” starts. This gutsy rocker sounds like it was was recorded on a portable tape recorder, until it kicks in with full studio sound. My guess is that Photoglo is at home both writing for others as well performing his songs “his way”. This is a fine CD for anyone seeking to hear future hits by the guy who wrote them. His voice, guitar, lyrics and songwriting skills puts him with the best in the business. We have heard most of these songs live at his concerts. We drive from Atlanta to Nashville to see him. Buy the CD. Barlights and It Used To Take A little are great stories.
