Album Notes

Pierre Antoine Jules was born in Gros-Morne Haiti on July 14, 1953, where he spent most of his adolescent life. Like most artist, he was a member of school’s choir from age 11 to 13. In 1967, he moved to Port-au-Prince in order to complete his studies.

In 1968 while vacationing in his own town, he became involve with a musical group by the name of “ Melomane de Gros-Morne”. He played conga for the group, which last for only one year. He obtained his first guitar in July 1974 and self-taught himself. In 1978, he migrated to the USA, more specifically in Miami Florida, where he resided since.

In May 1979, he joined the musical group Brothers Band as a guitar player. That same year, he got together with a couple of other musicians, and formed a troubadour musical group named konbit Revolisyonè. In short, he played in several other musical groups, as both singer and guitar player. Among them, Grenn Banbou and Sanba Lele, which he founded.

In May 1995, he put together the musical group Baget Mayango. The marriage of those two words carries the strength and determination of the artist to promote the Haitian culture in all aspects. And also to strive for a place foe excellence in the culture diversity present in the United States.

Pierre Antoine Jules is the band leader, lead singer and guitar player. Its music’s features a new concept of the Haitian Roots, which is a variety of rhythms from Haitian folklore and voodoo religion such as: Petro, Ibo, Kongo, kontrdans, Rara, koy, Yanvalou. Mayi, Afro and many others. Further, percussion, lead and background vocal play a dominant role. The interpretation of the above mentioned folk rhythms, are done with professionalism. Baget Mayango music style is mostly to listen to, yet can be dance as well.
