Born in Sorel Quebec, guitarist/composer/songwriter/producer Pierre Coté is one of the busiest studio/live musicians on the Montréal music scene. Over the last 20 years, he has toured or recorded with artists such as Alain Caron (UZEB) , Celine Dion, Carol Welsman, The Benny Goodman Orchestra (New York), Jim Corcoran, Le Cirque du Soleil, Jimmy Haslip (Yellowjackets), Ken Peplowski, Dave Liebman, (New York) and countless others. Equally versed in jazz, blues, pop and country, he has played on several recording sessions in Nashville and Los Angeles. Pierre has also written music and several songs for various Hollywood and Canadian movie productions as well as themes for television. He was also nominated for several "Adisq" (Québec) and "Juno" (Canada) awards as a producer/arranger, composer and musician.
His first offering "Amerika Plads" consists of 9 original compositions. Set within the acoustic jazz idiom, his music is deep, nuanced yet powerful; contemporary, yet melodic. As a guitarist, he draws upon varied sources for inspiration. A fan of contemporary jazz guitarists of the last 20 years (he also cites Keith Jarrett as a huge influence), his playing was also shaped by southern american roots music (blues, rock, country and bluegrass).
For his first solo project, Pierre teams up with fellow Juno nominee, saxophone-great Chet Doxas as well as some of Montreal's premier jazz musicians.
Drummer Christian Pamerleau is one of Canada's finest drummers and the leader of the "Vue d'ensemble" euro-jazz quartet. Guy Boisvert, one of Montreal's top call bassists and member of the famed François Bourassa trio shares bottom-end duty with another bass virtuoso, Frederic Alarie, who also enjoys a prolific solo career in his own right.
