The Pigeons du Sable are maintaining a link to their past by playing Gnawa music, a ritual music that was brought to Morocco from slaves of Sub-Saharan Africa. The heart of the Gnawa instrumentation is the guembri, a 3 stringed lute that plays a bass line. Although we also hear the drum (ganga), metal castanets (qraqeb), and hand clapping, it is the trance inducing chants that makes this CD great. 65 minutes.
