Album Notes

Saxophonist and composer Kevin Pike combines jazz, funk, world and experimental music styles to create his own unique brand of jazz fusion.

The music of 'microjazz' covers a wide range of musical styles.

From funky (BQCT Blues) to Latin (microjazz), swing (Troll Child) to afro-Cuban (Fanfare for the Silver Horse), fusion (Millennium) to contemporary classical (Ellen's Bag), and 'gospel boogie sax' (Wednesday Night Boogie) to jazz zydeco (Hippopotamus Rex), Kevin creates his own form of jazz fusion that can only be described as 'microjazz.'

Kevin plays a wide assortment of instruments on the album, including saxophones, traditional and ethnic flutes, piano, keyboard, guitar and percussion.

He also uses experimental sounds, such as saxophone through wah-wah pedal and plastic instruments bought in toy stores.

The album also features Ellen Struve on flute, Chuck Hosch on electric bass, Adam Johnson on acoustic bass guitar, and Ken Johnson on trumpet.

No midi sequencing was used on the album. Each part was performed by Kevin or one of the guest artists.

Bluesy Hard Bop soloing, Gospel-influenced melodies, and juicy electric organ.

Funky electric jazz features a zydeco-influenced rhythm on several tracks. Bluesy Hard Bop soloing, Gospel-influenced melodies, and juicy electric organ recall classic '60s soul-jazz; Pike's solos are effusive, verbose, and virtuosic.
