Album Notes

Saxophonist Kevin Pike has recorded an album of classical works by famous composers such as Bach, Beethoven and Debussy. Kevin's warm tone and lyrical approach create an interpretation of these works that is modern in sound, yet traditional in presentation. On tracks 2-10, he is accompanied by bassist Adam Johnson, who composed these unique arrangements for alto saxophone and acoustic bass guitar. Tracks 1 and 11 feature Kevin on alto saxophone and baritone saxophone.

If you think "classical saxophone" is an oxymoron, then this album is a great introduction to the world of classical saxophone. If you are familiar with the classical saxophone repertoire, then you will definitely want to add this CD to your collection. It illustrates the fact that great classical music translates to any instrument if the arrangement is carefully constructed.

In case you're wondering, the German title "Wachet auf und spielt das Saxophon" translates to "Wake up and play the saxophone."
