free jazz + remix = Fractured Intuition
This album is about improvisation. Every song was improvised from start to finish and then edited for form.
If you enjoy free jazz by such artists as John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman and the AACM, then you should check out this new approach to creative improvised music.

"One of the most arresting local discs to this date"
author: Omaha Reader
John Kotchian and Kevin Pike have teamed up and released one of the most arresting local discs to this date. The disc, Fractured Intuition, is also available in limited quantities on vinyl. Based on the free-jazz format, wherein songs are completely based on improvisation and then later edited and manipulated manually, the pair started jamming — with Pike on saxophone and Kotchian on drums. Next they listened to the improv piece, decided if it needed more layers (two of the album’s cuts didn’t and were recorded in their entirety the first time) and then overdubbed additional bass, percussion and more saxophone. One of the beautiful things about improvisation done well is how the freeform come-as-it-may, go-as-it-will approach forces people to become actively involved in listening to music. Fractured Intuition is reminiscent of an early morning jam session in The Vanguard’s smoky confines circa 1959. Great stuff.
