Album Notes

Piks Yawnoc came to America in 1989 with his collection of old classic rock and roll 45's and a beat up Silvertone guitar. Leaving his homeland of Czechoslovakia for the promised land of his childhood Rockabilly heroes. Piks music contains strong influences from such early rock and roll stars of the fifties (50's) and sixties (60's) as Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Eddie Cochran, Link Wray, Jerry Lee Lewis and others. His inspiration also came from New York punk rockers (the CBGB's crowd) and classic rock singers of the seventies (70's) and eighties (80's) such as Iggy Pop, Ian Hunter (of Mott the Hoople), Bruce Springsteen, just to name a few.
New Orleans has also been a big part of Piks' American experience. He goes there every chance he gets and never misses the Mardi Gras. Pik's music even includes elements of Cajun and Ska, an obvious influence from those wild and crazy nights on Bourbon Street.

Piks has a very distinct voice....

A great listen. Monkoff's guitar playing is hot...and Piks's voice is unmistakeable, almost hauntingly familiar and perfect for this stuff. If you like rock and roll, old school punk and rockabilly with a dash of ska thrown in...check this cd out!
