Album Notes

"it's one of the best records I've bought all year!
mrs p sings and plays cello alongside a simple percussion arrangement and the whole record is just sublime. I guess its comparable to likes of Cat Power or bjork as her voice is reminiscent of both in places. If you see it buy it" by Matt (who had never heard of mrs p before buying the record in a book shop)

I began writing songs on my cello after graduating at Northampton college, UK, in 1993 ( I did music, drama and art)
Soon after, I joined the band "Ubu Swirl" with Paul W. and Tim Harries (he's played with Brian Eno, June Tabor, Iain Bellamy, Ben Castle, Mike Westbrook, Alan Moore, The Hungry Ants and many more).
ubu swirl played and played and sold lots of vinyl* and made little fabric Y-fronts as flyers.("ubu swirl" double album out someday i swear)((we also got married ...why? for a bit of cash...my dear..my dear
Michael Rother (Neu!) saw me playing in a Hamburg bar and asked me to record some vocals for him (that album was released in May 04)
In 2001 I wrote the 1st mrs Pilgrimm songs using lines from Paul's notebook (full of spleen and long words) and my own (full of simple crap and doodles).
The whole album was recorded and mixed in just 2 days, with Roy Dodds on percussion and Tim Harries on bass guitar, electric guitar and double bass. It sounds live and relaxed cos that's what it was.
I've kept on playing mostly solo shows(with my line 6 loop pedal) including several European tours (one with The Four Tenors; an experiment on performance without practice, also featuring Steve Mathewson, Steve Westfield and Lou Barlow)

*yes it's also available in gorgeous,clear,10" vinyl.(not many left though) contact hinterhoff to buy one.

...a very sensual record.

I really, really love this album!! I crawled back to bed after checking the post, and stuck the cd on my bedroom player. Normally I then just have the music as a background, and maybe read a bit, but from the first song "Heute" I listened intently, and, despite only having heard it through once I'm very impressed. It's a very sensual record.

A different sound and very good

This is a unique recording, one that I like very much and plan to get her second CD. I enjoy her voice, low key and nice to listen to. Her cello playing is excellent in a very new style not at all in the Yo Yo Ma classical mode. Would love to see her live and hear some looped and effects cello playing. I emailed her from her web site thanking her for such an interesting/fun CD. She emailed me back straight away, returned the thanks and asked how I heard about her CD's. I told her CD BABY !! Spread the word if you like some space age cello playing by a English chic with a great voice get mrs pligrimm.
