The San Francisco trio Pillow Pusher formed in 2002. Since then Pillow Pusher have been making original music that can be considered indie rock - with an intentional touch of punk and an accidental touch of country. Both of Pillow Pusher’s records Malatesta (2003) and Room 5 (2006) are accessible, even catchy, without being pedantic. The cynical, hopeful, and clever tone of the lyrics tends to be reminiscent of Doug Martsch (Built to Spill) or Frank Black. In Pillow Pusher’s music you can hear influences like the Dead Milkmen, Credence Clearwater Revival, Frank Black, Rush, and They Might Be Giants.
Room 5 was recorded at Lennon Studios in SFs SOMA district. It ranges from pop punk, to sonic country rock while retaining a consistent feel and good flow throughout. It is 32 minutes of unpretentious, uncontrived, original, clever, and catchy music. Room 5 is quirky, powerful, poppy, and moody all at the same time.
