Think of this music as a s'more. The crunchy graham cracker is the foundation, of course, and here it's a mix of Veruca Salt riffs and Go-Go's harmonies. The chocolate-y bits, the heart and soul of the mixture, is pure Liz Phair - sexually charged lyrics with offbeat melodies. The sticky, roasted marshmallow is, as we all know, what gives a s'more it's overall attitude, what holds it all together. Walking the line between burnt angst and raw sweetness is always a trick in rock music, and Marianne demonstrates quite deftly her ability to find the sweet spot. In a word, The Wrong Marianne is delicious!
